No One Killed Jessica

Starring: Myra Karn, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan.

My rating: three and a half stars.

The movie is about an NDTV correspondent, Meera (Rani Mukherjee), who describes the Jessica Lal murder case, who was murdered by Manu Sharma, a politician’s son. It starts with the way the family and friends were affected by it and goes on to show how the almighty politicians took over and turned the case around in their favour. The second half of the movie tells the role of the media in bringing justice to the victim and family by creating a nation-wide wave of awareness about justice declined.

It was a good movie where the concept was concerned. Even the cinematography was good to some extent but the movie had its short-falls. The whole i-am-a-tough-girl-who-swears thing didn’t work out for Rani. There wasn’t an ease and a flow with which she swore. The media was hyped more than what was warranted by the plot which reduced the charm of Indianism. All in all, a one time watch.

  1. Err. . you seemed to be in a hurry while writing this one. review finished before it started, but i agree with almost all of it. Also, second half was bland, otherwise would have been an altogether different movie.

  2. i posted this review a little while after watching the movie so many points skipped my mind when penning it down. bollywood cannot live without dramatics. people are so used to them that they add it even if uncalled for. that is a major spoiler in many movies

  3. Agree with u..rani's role was way too hyped and it overshadowed many important characters in the movie who also mattered.I just saw the movie and call it a let down

  4. @dreampainter: there is something seriously wrong with Bollywood. they cannot seem to set their mind on any thing in particular. they want everything in a movie, explicit scenes, item songs, deep-meaning dialogs, cheesy romance... it can go on and on. i think if they just stick to the main theme, the movies will be marvelous

  5. Yes, media was over-hyped and so was Rani's character and swearing. The movie was terribly slow in the second half. I personally slept over that part in theater.
