2012

well if the world was gonna end in 2012 then i better get on with life and screw it extracting as much fun as i can get. or i can make peace with the people i have hurt.
i guess thats what the director wanted to say through the movie or the writer (i can never figure it out). the movie, in all, was good. for the first one hour the human in me was shaken to see the catastrophe which is bound to occur sooner or later. i didnt pay attention to the misdirection. i missed my family so much.
but then it was all too good to be true because the movie turned to an obnoxious road. the hero will not die what so ever and the villain is blessed with the shortest shelf life and the other stereotyped dramatic stuff.
the movie depicted the raw human nature when faced with a calamity. it showed no matter how drastic situation can be, we will always be attracted towards power. be it money power or the crude, raw power in basic sense
all in all, the movie wasnt an eye and mind sore

2 states-story of chetan bhagat's marriage

it began like all chetan bhagat's works begin. the wit, humor, sarcasm were all in place. it made me smile at times. but then this book didnt appeal to me as much as the others did (yes i liked 3 mistakes too and didnt consider it to be a mistake to read it).
for starters, i am not sure if the writer had the whole overview of the book clear in the mind. if he professes to be secular then why did he categorise people as punjabis and tamilians??? (which at many times was offensive). he could have easily differentiated them as his side of the family and his wife's side of the family. then again he also needs to clear whether he wanted his character to be "cool" or a "geek". one more point needs clearance to me. he says that a graduation from IIT and a post grad from IIM-A is no biggie. then why was his academic qualification emphasised in the book numerous times???
5 point someone was very fresh. we all were very happy to have an insight into the country's most exalted institute for engineers. it showed us that yes life can be screwed anytime. even if you are into IIT. it was subtle, young, fascinating. it gave hope to geeks that they could also get a girlfriend. he was modest in the book to say the least. but i think now the fame and fortune is getting to his head.
he says that he wants to be a writer that wants to bring about a change. he has written 4 books till now. 2 are adapted into a movie. what change does he think he has brought about? people were still marrying out of caste and culture without being coached by his book.
all his other books had a stimulating ending. i dont know what happened this time. he failed to make his point. whether he wanted to describe his wedding or tell what a disaster it was???
his observation skills and the way he can pen them down has inspired me. i have been in tamil nadu for 2 and a half years now and i can fully understand what he meant by saying that "fun comes with guilt" with regard to tamilians. that was all true. but please it wasnt something to give the nation when already it is being split unnecessarily based on region and religion.
whatever happened to chetan bhagat's lucubration skills is very saddening. i pray that he revives his form.

the criticism begins- "ajab prem ki gajab kahani"

perhaps i had a little too much expectation from the movie. maybe i wasnt in the mood. its also probable that the movie was, simply stating, BADDD!!!. for starters, it made no sense whatsoever. i tried very hard. i really did to understand the whole mindset of the director, story-writer, producer and the others involved in compiling that... do u call that a movie???.
the humour was unalterely copied from the 80's Govinda's movies. they used to sound good then. but now... well times change and so does the mind set of people. when u star ranbir kapoor after the release of wake up sid u need to come up with something equally good if not better. the audience expects that.
ok i assent that there were a few light moments in the movie in which the comedy over took my frustration and i actually laughed but as i said they were few. very few.
coming to the action sequence. the rajnikant defiance of physics laws is history. people are educated. even if the creators of the movie want to ignore that then please atleast respect poor Newton's discoveries. he really worked hard and whacked his brains to come up with the concept of gravity and laws of motion.
my guess is that the director (or whosoever is responsible for that torture) wanted to be at par with priyadarshan and his creations. well i hope that this experience has taught him something. that something being the fact there are somethings better left to the experts. also while making a movie people should bear in mind that not everywhere are the cinema halls air conditioned and coushin seated. we do have rock hard seats. some individuals (like myself) will also sit in the cememted (not carpeted) aisle too if the occasion asked for it. so the 3 hr experience should not be this bad atleast. have some humanity.
for a change the music was real music to the ears, the only thing that the movie was worth sitting for. i didnt get the name of the music director and the lyricist but both had a good synchronization. the lyrics actually made sense (surprise!!!) and touched my calloused heart and stultified mind.
